Worship:
Prior to worshipping God together in “spirit and truth” (John 4:24), someone will share with the congregation important announcements such as up-dates on the sick, and up-coming events. Following the announcements, our worship service will start and last for about an hour (including announcements) and you can expect the following to “be done decently and in order (1 Corinthians 14:40)…
Praying: We are led by different men in our congregation during worship (1 Tim. 2:1-8). In addition to these, there may be prayers for specific needs and requests.
Singing: The whole congregation joins together in praising God in song. The music is “acapella.” That is, we sing without the accompaniment of musical instruments (Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 3:16). In case anyone is unfamiliar with one of the songs, the words are available in our songbooks and on a screen in front of the auditorium on power point. Many of our guests choose to join us in singing, while others prefer simply to listen as we worship.
Taking Communion (The Lord’s Supper): Every Sunday, our members remember Christ’s death by eating unleavened bread and drinking fruit of the vine (Acts 20:7). Following a song and prayer, the unleavened bread (small pieces of wafers) will be passed around the congregation so every Christian can eat, and then you will pass the tray to the next person. Following this, another prayer will be offered. Then a tray of grape juice will be served. Again Christians are encouraged to take one of the small cups from the tray, pass the tray to the next individual. After drinking the juice, please place the cup in a holder on the back of the seat in front of you.
Preaching: We will enjoy a Bible lesson that last about 30 minutes (Acts 2:42; Romans 10:14). On most Sunday’s, Billy Robinson will present these lessons, though occasionally one of our men or a guest speaker will guide our thoughts. Each lesson will be taken from the Bible and explained as to what it means and to how it applied to our lives.
Invitation Extended: At the close of the sermon, the preacher will extend an invitation to invite people to respond who feel a need to do so, whether to obey the gospel of Christ, repent of sins, or to request prayer support, etc.
Giving: Each member of the Lord’s church contributes weekly to the work of the church (1 Corinthians 16:2). After the invitation, and a prayer, the offering plates will be passed around for those who want to give as they have prospered (1 Corinthians 16: 1-2; cf. 2 Corinthians 9:6-7; 8:1-9). As our guest, we do not ask you to give, nor do we expect you to do so.
Bible Study:
In addition to our worship service, we offer bible classes for all ages on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. On Sunday mornings, everyone goes to their respective classes which will start at 10:00 AM. The classes will last about 45 minutes and then everyone meets in the auditorium to prepare for worship service.
On Wednesday evening, prior to bible class we will meet in the auditorium for announcements and prayer. Following this everyone will go to their respective classes. These classes will last for about 45 minutes, and everyone will meet back in the auditorium for a devotional and an invitation will be extended. Our meeting closes with a prayer together.
We know meeting someone for the first time can be intimidating and going to a new church for the first time can be nerve-racking. When you’re our guest at the Prairie Plains church of Christ, you will never be asked to stand up and introduce yourself or do any other activity that makes you feel uncomfortable. We’d just love to have you! We want you to feel comfortable when you visit us for Bible study & worship services.
