The Prairie Plains church of Christ became a reality in September 1899, on the banks of Beans Creek, when brother J.K. Hill preached the gospel of Christ in a tent meeting. During the Gospel Meeting there were eighteen responses to the Gospel Invitation. This began a tremendous effort to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ in its simplicity to the ones living in the surrounding areas and worldwide.
The first time the members of this church were able to sit in a new church building was on August 26, 1900. In conjunction with the completion of the building and opening it to be used in the Lord’s work, Brother J.K. hill held another Gospel Meeting. There were thirteen responses to the Lord’s Invitation.
On March 27, 1950, the Prairie Plains Community had a strong storm to hit. It blew the church building off of its foundation. A decision was made to build a concrete block building. During the construction of this building, the church met in the public school house located in Prairie Plains. The first time these Christians met in the new church building was on the first Sunday of July 1951. Brother William Barnett preached on this Sunday and the following Sunday.
Since 1899 the word had been planted in the soils of the hearts of men. As the result of this growth has occurred and a need arose for more classrooms and larger auditorium. After a new addition was completed, on September 5, 2021, the new classrooms and auditorium were used for the first time.
For the first time in the history of the Lord’s Church in Prairie Plains, elders and deacons were selected to serve the congregation in 1997. On August 10, three men were appointed as shepherds. These men were Arnold Arrick, Ray Boyette, and Speaker Brassfield. Four men were selected to serve as deacons on December 7 of the same year. These men were Jerry Boyette, Bill Curtis, Fred Green and Charles Tuck. At the present time Arnold Arrick, Jerry Boyette, Sam Green and Dean Oliver pastor the flock. Presently, the ones serving as deacons are Billy Hill and Allen Willmore.
Throughout the years, many have responded to the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the result of the efforts of those who believed evangelism needed to start at home. As the result of faith, sowing the seed of the Gospel and patience, many have obeyed the gospel of Jesus Christ.
